Reindeer meet and greet generates donations for The Door
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Reindeer are a symbol of delivery during the holiday season and the toy quest had a reindeer meet and greet in hopes of delivering holiday cheer.
On Sunday, Dec. 4, The Toy Quest put on a reindeer meet and greet to raise funds for The Door. The event took place outside the store where participants could take a picture with a reindeer inside of a pen or even at the photo stand-in at the store. They were also encouraged to donate money to The Door, a local shelter for homeless teens.
Shane Powers, the owner of The Toy Quest put on a similar event in 2019, which also raised for The Door. Powers said he receives a lot of donation request, but he wanted to “limit [his donations] to people who work with children and The Door is far more local and they need a lot more local support. So, as a local business, I feel like that’s part of my duty,” said Powers.
Powers first decided upon supporting The Door because of his past work as a medic in Fairbanks. During his time in the position, he “interacted with a lot of people that have stayed at the door and the current director,” said Powers. The situations he witnessed working with The Door helped him decide to “help locally.”
The event lasted from noon to 4 p.m., during which “70 to 80″ family groups participated, said Powers.
