FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - It’s that time of year, and the Fairbanks North Star Borough (FNSB) is temporarily closing down each of its transfer sites for hard pack snow removal.

Starting with North Pole on Tuesday, January 3, each site will undergo the clearing of its hard pack.

According to a FNSB press release, the removal is aimed at making it safer and easier for traffic to move within each transfer facility.

The last transfer site closure is scheduled to be at Two Rivers on Friday, January 13.

Nine transfer sites will undergo snow removal within a two week timeframe. These closures are expected to last from a few hours to a whole day for each site.

“For the most part, we close each transfer site for a whole day to get everything cleared of the snow. We take all the dumpsters, move them to the center. We scrape every inch of the parking lot just to get it all out and clear for the public,” explains Brian Dianoski, Solid Waste Collection District Manager for FNSB.

These closure times are subject to change. The full schedule can be found on the borough’s website FNSB.gov.
