Fairbanks welcomes the first baby of 2023
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Fairbanks welcomed the first baby of the new year earlier this week. Baby Moira was born at 1:00 a.m. on January 1, 2023.
As the baby rested in her mother’s lap, we caught up with the family to see how things were going.
“Its been a little busy, there’s a lot of love coming in from friends and family, a lot of congratulations from strangers but that’s nice,” said Crystal Alstrom, the mom of newborn Moira.
Mom wasn’t sure if she would make it to midnight for Moira’s arrival, as her first-born child came sooner than expected. “I remember the doctors told me the second one comes a little faster, or usually, comes a little faster. So, I was looking at the clock like maybe it’ll be born on New Years.”
“I was thinking about it while we were at the hospital; when she’s growing up at this young age, we could tell her look at those fireworks. it’s for you since it’s your birthday!” Crystal said.
She said she was unsure whether this would be her last child, and she is enjoying the little moments. “Even though I was getting pretty uncomfortable towards the end of the pregnancy I kept telling myself, ‘Okay this might be my last one so enjoy these moments even if they’re hard.’”
Moira’s little brother, Kylo, is also adjusting well to the new family dynamic. Crystal says he loves playing with his baby sister, and sometimes doesn’t want to hand her back over.
Regardless of the late nights, Crystal says it is all worth it in the end.
