FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Bernard Chastain has been appointed as the new director of the Alaska Wildlife Trooper Division by Department of Public Safety Commissioner James Cockrell.

Colonel Chastain has worked for the Alaska Department of Public Safety since 1998 as a wildlife trooper.

Chastain most recently worked as a major and deputy director for the Alaska Wildlife Troopers and the Alaska State Troopers overseeing the aircraft section and other programs for the Department of Public Safety.

In his 25 years of experience as an Alaska Wildlife Trooper, Chastain has had the opportunity to work in every part of the state that offers access to hunting and fishing.

“I bring to the table that experience of having been around the state and seeing how impactful hunting and fishing and commercial activity is to the state,” Chastain said. “My primary focus is to ensure that Alaskans are allowed to use the resources fairly and equitably with all other users in accordance with the law.”
