West Valley’s 2023 Ice Jam Tournament Concludes

Wolfpack Girls, Lynx Boys crowned champions

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Two of the best boy’s basketball teams were in the interior over the weekend competing in West Valley High School’s Ice Jam tournament.

The best game of the tournament was Friday night. Dimond Lynx and West Valley Wolfpack boys. The Lynx chipped away a double-digit Wolfpack lead, a big shot from Marek Hajdukovich forcing overtime. Hajdukovich went on to hit the game-winning shot to beat West Valley, 54-57.

With that win, the Dimond Lynx went a perfect 3-0. West Valley finished 2-1. Lynx leaving Fairbanks champions, and the Wolfpack took second place. Palmer was third, and Valdez went winless, ending fourth.

The Girl’s Ice Jam was also decided Friday. Cross-town rivals, West Valley and Lathrop met for the third time this season, and Aysha Peter led the Wolfpack to a perfect 3-0 weekend. West Valley beat Lathrop, 45-35, earning the tournament championship.

The Malemutes finished the Ice Jam, 2-1, getting second. Valdez (1-2) took third, and Palmer ended without a win, coming in fourth.
