At least 1 killed, 4 hurt in Tennessee shooting, officials say

One of the five victims is a child, according to Monroe County Sheriff’s Office officials.

SWEETWATER, Tenn. (WVLT/Gray News) - A suspect wanted in a deadly shooting at Hawkins Road in Sweetwater, Tennessee, has been taken into custody.

Multiple agencies, along with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, responded to Hawkins Road in response to a deadly shooting Tuesday just after 4 p.m.

Officials said that there were five victims, including a child. At least one person is dead, but MCSO officials did not release the identity of the victim.

On Wednesday night, officials said a person of interest, identified as 26-yar-old Liu Gabriel Huerta, was arrested at approximately 9:45 p.m. by the MCSO and US Marshal’s Smokey Mountain Fugitive Task Force.

Huerta is currently being held at the Monroe County Justice Center and is facing three counts of attempted first degree murder, attempted aggravated burglary, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and the use of firearm during a dangerous felony.

In an earlier update, Madisonville Police Department officials said they had another suspect in custody but did not identify them.

Loudon County Sheriff’s Office and MPD officials said they were helping in the search for suspects involved. MCSO said they’re investigating more people that could be connected.

Sweetwater is located in the southeastern corner of Tennessee.
