Billy Renfrew makes NCAA DI commitment
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The Fairbanks Ice Dogs leading point scorer has announced his commitment to play NCAA Division I college hockey at Northern Michigan University.
Fairbanks local has scored 114 (50-64-114) points in 129 games as an Ice Dog. Renfrew was also the second-highest point scorer last season behind Alexander Malinowski.
“I just had good talks with their coaches and I have a lot of family friends that have spent a lot of time in that area,” stated Renfrew. “It’s a great place. It’s on the water, and I liked it. It gives me some of the Fairbanks vibes, but just in the Michigan area.”
Even tough Billy could forgo his final year of juniors eligibility and enroll at NMU, the future is still unclear what level of hockey he will play next season.
Renfrew is now the fourth rostered Ice Dogs member to have a collegiate commitment. The NMU Wildcats are a member of the CCHA, located in Marquette, Michigan.
“It means a lot that I can spend pretty much my whole juniors career here in Fairbanks, and I wouldn’t give it up for anything. We’re excited for the future.” ended Renfrew.
