Troopers involved in February 21 incident identified

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The names of the two Alaska State Troopers (AST) that fired their weapons during the incident that happened in the Badger, Maude Boyle Dr. area on February 21 have been identified.

They are Trooper Brian Lemay, who is a 4-year veteran with AST and Trooper Cody Royer, who is a 2-year veteran with AST.

According to the Alaska Bureau of Investigation (ABI), they will continues to investigate all of the facts surrounding this officer-involved shooting. Once the ABI investigation is complete, it will be independently reviewed by the Alaska Office of Special Prosecutions,

AST responded to a complaint from a resident, in the Maude Boyle Dr. area, stating an adult male was on her porch crying and not wearing any shoes. When the troopers arrived, the man had already left the residence and was walking into traffic and attempting to flag down motorists.

According to a press release, the troopers caught up with the adult male and a foot pursuit began. The adult male pulled out a handgun and the troopers responded by firing their weapons. The adult male was treated on the scene for gunshot wounds and taken to a local hospital.

Troopers determined the subject was a fugitive and wanted for Escape in the Third Degree.
