FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Unemployment in the Fairbanks North Star Borough is down to its lowest level since at least 1993, according to the newest issue of the borough’s Community Research Quarterly (CRQ).

The CRQ is a collection of statistics from the local economy, released in four volumes each year. It reports on various economic topics from around the borough, including housing and tourism. The latest edition covers the period from October to December of last year.

According to the CRQ, unemployment in the borough is down to 3.8 percent.

The data also shows that incoming and outgoing passengers at Fairbanks International Airport are nearly hitting levels seen pre-pandemic, upwards of 500 thousand each.

Housing and rental costs continue to rise meanwhile, a trend that’s been ongoing since 2020.

The edition cited above is expected to be released by the borough on March 27.
