FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The Noel Wien Public Library is about to undergo a major renovation project starting on May 1. During that time, the building will be closed to the public.

However, residents have been assured by the Fairbanks North Star Borough that they can still put materials on hold and pick them up during that time, although the form that process would take is still being considered.

The project is expected to last around 10 months.

While the closure is in effect, the North Pole Branch Library will see extended hours, and the Joy Community Center, where Joy Elementary School used to operate, will house Children’s and Young Adult Services.

According to Borough Mayor Bryce Ward, “They have every intention to continue with all of the services that we have historically provided through the summer season and during the closure, whether it be at Joy, where we’re going to be relocating our services for Fairbanks, or out in North Pole for the North Pole Branch, but I have a high level of confidence in the work that they’re doing.”

In preparation for the closure, Noel Wien will begin allowing only 5 holds at a time starting on March 15.
