March For Meals: a local non-profit fundraiser for Meals on Wheels
March fundraiser for the Fairbanks Senior Center’s Meals on Wheels program
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The local non-profit organization, Fairbanks Senior Center, strives at extending their hand and kitchen to seniors in the Fairbanks community.
Meals on Wheels is a popular, nation-wide program typically operated by non-profits and generous volunteer delivery drivers. The Fairbanks Senior Center takes part in the Meals on Wheels program by delivering warm, nutritious meals right to the front door of seniors who are in need and qualify for the program.
Executive Director, Darlene Supplee, notes that this program is a catalyst for forming positive relationships with the seniors in our community. In her words, Meals on Wheels is “the way in” to these meaningful connections that can extend beyond just providing a meal. Extra assistance such as a wellness check or helping with around-the-house chores, in combination with forming positive connections, can make all the difference in the world to seniors in our community.
The Meals on Wheels program operates all year-round, five days a week and this month carries a special significance for the non-profit. In an effort to keep up with the growing need of the program, the Fairbanks Senior Center is holding a fundraiser for the entire month of March to ensure they can continue providing their services. The campaign, “March for Meals”, emphasizes that it takes a village for their services to be successful.
Those interested in giving are invited to simply share their message and program with others and you can also volunteer your time with Meals on Wheels. Additionally, if you shop at the CO-OP Market, you can round up your total for a donation. All proceeds will go to the Meals on Wheels program.
