FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - West Valley senior, Caleb Petersen, signed his letter of intent to run for Belmont Abbey College next spring. The Crusaders home track is located in Belmont, North Carolina.

“I really like the facility,” said Petersen. “It’s a little far from home so that was a bit of an issue for a while but the facility is really nice and I like the team...”

The Crusaders compete in the Conference Carolinas. This season they are finishing on average in the top three for invitationals so far. The Winthrop Invitational, had multiple runners and field athletes for the Crusader’s meeting conference qualifying standards

“I feel like I’m pretty good at meeting new people because of them. It’s a pretty big team,” added Petersen about how his West Valley teammates have helped him prepare for the jump from the Alaskan Mountain Range to the Appalachian Mountains in North Carolina.

As the march towards the start of his senior season grows closer, a foot injury could put an extension on the expected start date for the Fairbanks product. He’s happy with the thought of getting the chance to get out there and potentially topping his PR of 55.52 seconds in the 400 meters.

Petersen aims to compete in the 400 meter hurdles and triathlon when he becomes a Crusader in the fall. Academically, Petersen will study either sports management or business.
