FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - North Pole senior, Mervyn Pangilinan, signed his national letter of intent to play football for William Penn University this upcoming fall. The Statesmen call the Statesmen Community Stadium in Oskaloosa, Iowa home.

“The reason, I already said that before. But the reason I love North Pole is because we’re just one big family and I kind of see a bunch of that in William Penn.” stated Pangilinan on his reason for choosing William Penn.

The Statesmen compete in the Heart of America Athletic Conference in Division two of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Pangilinan won’t be the only North Pole alumni involved with William Penn’s football team as Graduate Assistant, Marshall Chace also hails from North Pole.

In Pangilinan’s Junior year an injury ended his season early, and he decided to still help the team by acting as an athletic trainer by making sure his teammates were taped up for the season and that feeling of helping, set him on the path for what he wanted to study in college. Pangilinan decided to study nursing during his time at William Penn to continue finding ways to help people.
