Timber Creek Senior Living fills “niche” in the community
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - “There’s a dire need in the community,” said Carl Rayburn, Executive Director of the recently opened Timber Creek Senior Living. Timber Creek is the latest addition to senior housing in the Fairbanks North Star Borough. The facility officially opened on April 1, with a ribbon cutting ceremony, speeches by municipal leadership and more.
The new facility provides another place for seniors to move into, if they choose. Having that option has been labeled as a need in the community as “a lot of studies and assessments” have shown that the aging population in the borough needs more senior housing. “We have one of the highest aging populations per capita and it’s been an issue in the community for a long time,” Rayburn said.
With the large need for senior housing, Timber Creek Senior Living has enabled a wide variety of payment options. “We have private pay and Medicaid and then there are also some other things people have been using,” said Endy Grabowski, the business office manager for Timber Creek. Some of those other payment options include long-term benefits through insurance, retirement benefits and assistance through Veterans Affairs.
At the open house and official opening, visitors were able to tour the facility while being treated to a multitude of entertainment. Activities at the open house included dog sled rides, a vintage snowmobile show, live music, ice sculpting and more.
While it took a lot of partners to put together the open house, Timber Creek administration said they will also be partnering with other local business and groups to provide the residents with a sense of community participation.
Timber Creek Senior Living is currently housing residents and is looking to fill more rooms. For more information or to reserve an apartment visit the Timer Creek Senior Living website.
