John Weaver Skate Park remains open as final touches are under way
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Recently a fence went up around the perimeter of the John Weaver Skate Park that is located near the Carlson Center.
While it may appear the park is closed, like it was for the majority of last summer, that is not the case. The Fairbanks North Star Borough (FNSB) Parks and Recreation team has reassured the public the park is open and will remain open.
The fence is there to protect the surrounding area that was recently planted with grass. This project marks the final polishing of the park’s remodel that the community saw during the 2022 summer season.
FNSB Parks and Recreation Project Coordinator, Trisha Levasseur, says “the fence is expected to stay up until we start seeing grass growing. So we ask that people respect the fenced area. The skate park is open. Just kind of stay clear of the graveled area as we wait for the grass to grow”.
Levasseur estimates the fence could potentially remain up for 4 to 6 weeks, but it is possible it could be up all summer.
