Eielson hosts first NLI signing of the year
Landen Salley signs NLI to commit to Umpqua Community College for Track and Field
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The Eielson Ravens have their first NLI signing of the year. As Landen Salley signs his NLI to commit to Umpqua Community College (UCC) for Track and Field to compete in pole vaulting.
The Riverhawks compete in the Northwest Athletic Conference. The school is located in the Pacific Northwest in the town of Roseburg, Oregon.
We asked Salley his thoughts on making the move down to Roseburg for school.
“It’s a little concerning, I’m not too positive on what I’m going to do by myself, because they’ve been taking care of me for the most part, but I’m not to like excited or absolutely concerned about it, more of a neutral feeling I’m not excited or anything,” said Salley.
Two reasons Salley received a scholarship from UCC was meeting the Alaskan high school state pole vaulting record of 14 ft 2 inches set in 1980 by Mike Brinkmeyer. The second reason is he broke that record, setting the new official record of 14 ft 4 inches at National Pole Vault Summit, held in Reno, Nevada.
