FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) -West Valley mid to long distance track star, Riga Grubis, has made her decision for college, as she signed her NLI to commit to Willamette University to run track and compete in triathlons for the Bearcats next year.

The Bearcats compete in the Northwest Conference in Division III of the NCAA, and the triathlon team competes independently. The university is located in the Willamette Valley, considered the largest river valley in Oregon. The school is surrounded by lush greenery and forests.

We asked Grubis her thoughts about making the move and becoming a Bearcat.

“I think it’s going to be really hard, but I think it’s something I need to do, and it’s going to be such an adventure. The Pacific Northwest is so beautiful, and I can’t wait to just like be able to bike through it, swim through it and run through it, it’s going to be amazing,” said Grubis.

For what she planned to study, Grubis says she’s not sure yet, but she gets two years to figure it out. She is interested in art history classes, and classes that would allow her to explore the local forest.
