UAF offers free summer concert series “Music in the Garden”
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) is offering a series of free activities for the public during summer 2023.
From community lectures to education on health topics, the university has assembled a series of activities to keep Interior residents and tourists busy for the season.
On Thursday nights, Georgeson Botanical Garden on the west side of campus will host UAF’s Music in the Garden series.
The event features a variety of local bands, and attracts an audience of sometimes around a thousand people.
This year, it started on May 25 and continues through August 10. Timed to begin at 7:00 p.m., the concert’s popularity has forced an expansion to include more performers. According to Michelle Bartlett, Director of Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning at UAF, “We created what we call the welcoming band, and people were coming earlier and earlier to grab their spot in the grass, so if they’re coming earlier anyway, why don’t we just have music? So we have the welcoming band start at 5:30 [p.m.] and the concert starts at 7:00 [p.m.].”
Parking at the Botanical Garden is limited, so attendees are encouraged to, if necessary, to park at the Nenana Parking Lot down the street and use the free shuttle that operates between the two spots.
