Public Safety Academy gives badges to 17 new recruits

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) -“Congratulations to these latest law enforcement officers, who just graduated from the Alaska Law Enforcement Academy,” said Governor Mike Dunleavy who congratulated 17 new law enforcement officers who received their badges in Sitka on Friday, June 23.

At this year’s Public Safety Academy, most graduates completed more than a 1000 hours of training in the span of 17 weeks which included extensive coursework.

Some graduates, however, attended an 8-week training period to complete their requirements. This included law related topics, physical fitness, and scenario-based exercises.

Once recruits reach their first duty assignments, they will begin a 12-week field training and evaluation program.

The recruits that are moving on to the Alaska State Troopers will be promoted upon their required probationary period.

Five of the 17 will be new to the Alaska State Troopers.

Another one will be an Alaska Wildlife Trooper, they will be starting in Fairbanks in mid-July.

Jacob Spencer, one of the 17 new recruits, will be joining the UA/Fairbanks Police Department.

Congratulations to all the recruits from this year’s Public Safety Academy.
