FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Filing for municipal candidacy opened for residents in the Fairbanks North Star Borough on Monday, July 17.

As October nears, municipal elections might be on the mind, especially as some candidates have made their intentions clear by campaigning in parades and other community events. As those elections near, it’s also time to file for candidacy.

The upcoming election on Oct. 3, includes seats D, E and H in the borough assembly. Seats C and D are also going to up for election on the Interior Alaska Natural Gas Utility Board, as well as school board seats E, F and G.

To file for candidacy, residents must go to the borough building at 907 Terminal St., and turn in the necessary forms. “When you come in, if you want to file, you can get information on each of those offices online at our election website or you can pick up the forms here at our office,” said April Trickey, a clerk at the borough office. This includes a declaration of candidacy form, which needs a notary to sign. “All of our staff are notaries so that can be done here in our office,” said Trickey. There’s also a $25 filing fee and a POFD, which is a financial disclosure form that needs to be submitted. That form will be filed through the Alaska Public Offices Commission, also known as APOC. “That needs to be completed, before you come in to file, print it off and bring it in to our office,” Trickey said. When all of that is complete, you will be added to a list of unofficial candidates.

The deadline to file is July 31, at 5 p.m. and the deadline to withdraw is August 7.
