FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - An unsafe situation threatened the opening day of the interior’s largest event.
On the first day of the Tanana Valley State Fair, at approximately 10:40 p.m. Friday evening, all attendees and vendors were told to evacuate the fairgrounds.
This caused community residents to take to social media with widespread confusion as the situation unfolded. Alaska State Troopers (AST) responded to the fairgrounds on College Road for what turned out to be a threat involving a firearm, which caused the evacuation.
21 year-old Zackary Curtis was arrested for terroristic threating in the second degree and misconduct involving weapons in the 4th degree. Zackary was remanded to the Fairbanks Correctional Center without incident.
There were no reported injuries at the fairgrounds, according to AST.
