Pizza in the Plaza with Police
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Area residents and visitors had a chance to grave a slice of good ol’ pizza or two, today, Thursday, Aug. 10, courtesy of the Fairbanks Police Department (FPD) and some members of the Fairbanks City Council.
During the lunch hour, FPD and the City Council members were on hand at the Golden Heart Plaza on Second Avenue.
The program was started a couple of years ago due to some of the negativity associated with activities that were taking place at the park plaza.
Sharing pizza was a way to engage with everyone who visited the plaza, from Fairbanks’ younger generation to our tourists and those who call Fairbanks home.
It was a chance for simple conversation and tasty slices of pizza.
FPD Chief of Police Ron Dupee was glad to participate in today’s event. He explained, “It’s very similar to Coffee with a Cop or those kinds of programs. We like to get out into the community and be able to talk and just be able to have conversations with people and show people we’re just like they are, and we have to eat lunch as well. We have done this in the past. We did it several times last year, and just due to short staffing levels this year, this is the first time we’ve been able to get out and do it. We like to do these types of events and look forward to doing them in the future.”
