FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The Annual Fill the Bus School Supply Drive that began on July 24 and ended this past Sunday, Aug. 13 was a huge success, thanks to your help and the help from the rest of the community.

“It’s incredibly important that we support the students of the community. Black Gold has been a community member for several decades and we’ve raised families here and our children go to school here, so it was immensely important that we give back,” said Kayla Smith from Black Gold Transport.

The various school supplies will now be allocated to students in need.

On Wednesday, Aug. 16 the school district will have a supply pick-up event for those students that could use the extra help with school supplies. Families will be able to come to the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District Administrative Building on 5th Avenue in downtown Fairbanks and select needed supplies from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday. Once that ends, the social services network for the school district will take the leftover supplies to the many schools in the district and distribute them to students unable to attend the pick-up event.

Big “thank you’s” goes out all around to the golden heart community and our sponsors for helping support students in need.

Alyssa Handy of The United Way of the Tanana Valley expressed her gratitude, “We’re always so grateful to partner with Bright Futures, as well as KTVF, and Madden Real Estate to make the school supplies drive happen. It benefits so many of our community members and when we have huge community supporters show up for us like this, like Black Gold Transport donating a hundred back packs and members of the community bringing in boxes and droves of school supplies. It really touches us.”
