Pet of the Week: Zinc the hamster
This fluffy fellow at the animal shelter is looking for a new friend
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Meet fuzzy little Zinc who stars as the pet of the week, along with not one, not two, not three, but a whole hamlet of his hamster friends.
Britley Calkins at Fairbanks North Star Borough Animal Shelter explained that Zinc is a 4 week old hamster who is at the shelter with all of his hamster friends looking for their perfect places to call home. The shelter has a lot of hamsters of all different ages searching for their perfect place.
“If you are not familiar with hamsters we do encourage you to do the research. These little critters are nocturnal, meaning that they are most active at night and tend to sleep during the day, so the best time for handling is going to be late at night or first thing in the morning,” said Calkins. “They do like to live in their own separate environments and enclosures, and will tend to get territorial if placed with other hamsters. You will notice at the shelter that we have some of the youngsters sharing a cage, but once they reach maturity they will be separated.”
If you are interested in meeting Zinc or any of his other friends please give the shelter a call at (907) 459-1451. They have a variety of hamsters, guinea pigs, chinchillas, cats and dogs available for adoption.
