FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The Alaska K9 Center partnered with Vested Interest Inc. to host its twelfth annual fundraiser for law enforcement K9 protective vests this past Saturday and Sunday.

Event coordinators try to raise money for 3 to 4 vest each year, with each stab resistant and bullet resistant vest costing $950. In past years, the Alaska K9 Center has given vests to a total of around 35 dogs.

“It’s a good cause,” Beth Frank, with Alaska K9 Center, said, “and people want to support our law enforcement, and these dogs deserve protective vests. They do make a difference.”

“That money, a hundred percent of anything coming through these doors will be towards the vests,” Frank explained. According to the most recent estimate, this year’s fundraiser collected just over $3,000.

The fundraiser was assisted by vendors offering crafts, food, and live music. Several K9 officers attended.
