Interior Alaska participates in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Folks from Interior Alaska turned out in pink for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Fairbanks on Saturday.
The annual event seeks to promote breast cancer awareness and to fund-raise for programs and services that are offered for free to local cancer patients.
Around 150 people showed up for the walk. Organizers say that in pre-Covid years event attendance could reach the 500′s, and they hope to build up the numbers again in future years.
“Breast cancer has one degree of separation,” event organizer Angela Merkle explained, “so chances are if you haven’t faced it, someone you know has. So I would say that there’s about 80 to 90 percent of the people here have been affected.”
The American Cancer Society events are run by volunteers. For information on how you can volunteer for upcoming events, email angela.merkle@cancer.org or call 800-227-2345.
