FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The Fairbanks Drama Association (FDA) kicked off its 59th theatrical season on Thursday evening with a scene of luxury and lies on the French Riviera.

The musical, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, based on a 1980′s comedy, follows a contest between con men and its unexpected twists and turns.

“This play is essentially about people who are really good at doing their jobs,” explained director Bill Wright. “But they learn through the course of it that there’s always someone who can do it better.”

The FDA has put effort into meeting the unique challenges of this musical, such as building stage wings to allow action to enter and exit via the sides of the stage. Working with musical numbers and multiple moving parts on-stage was new territory for many members of the Fairbanks Drama Association. After weeks of practice, the cast promises to offer a rousing time.

“They really wanted a musical, and by golly did they get it!” leading actress Charlotte Gray exclaimed. Gray shared that she first took part in a production of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels in middle school, as a member of the chorus, “which really makes this a dream come true.”

The play runs September 21-24, and September 28 through October 1. Tickets can be found at https://aktickets.com/events/dirty-rotten-scoundrels-the-musical-9-21-2023.
