FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Lathrop played against Eagle River in the Semi Final State Championship Playoffs this past Saturday in Fairbanks. It would be a battle in the first quarter and then the football goliath of the interior woke up.

The first quarter would be a tug of war battle, with both teams able to grab six points, and Lathrop would hang on to a one point lead 7 to 6.

The Wolves running back would take advantage of a broken tackle to reverse the field and go the opposite way to take the lead for Eagle River 12 to 6 after a failed two point conversion.

Lathrop would answer back right away as Solomon Wade would go to the ground for a 27-yard touchdown to grab the lead back 14 to 12.

A big defense stop would wake up the sleeping goliath of the interior, with Zeddy Fanene providing the mortar to the brick wall of a solid Lathrop defense.

The Malemutes would march down the field, and Solomon Wade would turn on the jets again for an 18-yard touchdown to tack the lead up to a nine point difference.

After another defensive stop, Lathrop would plow through the Wolves, and Wade would grab his third rushing touchdown of the day, putting Lathrop up 28 to 12.

After three quick touchdowns, Jewitt Hill would say it’s time for the defense to score, as he would take a pick 53-yards to the house, all but putting the game away and securing Lathrop’s spot in the state Championship against Soldotna.

Lathrop would take the win 42 to 18.

The Division Two State Championship game is set for October 21st, at 1 p.m. at Service High School
