FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Just in time for Halloween, the Animal Shelter introduced a little fellow who’s as sweet as a Reeses cup - and he’s even the color of peanut butter!

Meet Reese the guinea pig. He is a sweet and friendly 3-year-old male available for adoption through the Fairbanks North Star Borough Animal Shelter. He and his friends were surrendered to the shelter due to their owner moving and being unable to take them along. Reese enjoys talking to his guinea pig friends but was said to not cohabitate well. He would enjoy having a guinea pig friend in his next home as long as he can be in his separate enclosure.

If you are unfamiliar with guinea pig care, the Shelter suggests doing research prior to adoption. Reese should be provided with unlimited access to timothy hay, a measured amount of pellet food, fresh greens, and water on a daily basis, as well as supplemented vitamin C in his diet. This can come in the form of dark leafy greens, bell peppers, slices of orange, or commercially purchased vitamin C.

Guinea pigs also like to have a large area where they can run around and stretch their legs - but they are chewers, so making sure you guinea pig-proof your room first is very important!

If you are interested in meeting Reese or any of his other friends at the Fairbanks Animal Shelter, call (907) 459-1451.
