Winter storm shuts down borough services across Fairbanks
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTUU) - Fairbanks North Star Borough officials have suspended borough services Tuesday as a winter storm continues to impact the region.
In an urgent alert Monday evening, the borough said all services will be suspended Tuesday, including the MACS Transit bus service and Van Tran transportation, as well as Parks and Recreation facilities such as pools and ice rinks. All branches of the borough’s public library will be closed.
Earlier Monday, the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District announced that all schools and extracurricular activities would be canceled Tuesday due to heavy snowfall and deteriorating road conditions. The heaviest snow is expected over night (Monday to Tuesday) according to borough officials.
