2020 Deltana Fair and Music Festival cancelled
The Deltana Fair and Music Festival in Delta Junction, which was scheduled for July 24th to 26th of this year, has been cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns.
Paul Myers, the president of the board for the event, said that many factors went into the decision, including the loss of sponsors.
“It wasn’t an easy decision for the whole board to do it, cause we all look forward to doing it every year -- but like I said, don’t have a crystal ball, can’t see the future, so we’re hoping for 2021,” he said.
The Deltana Fair was first put on in 1980, and Myers has been involved with the fair for 6 years.
In the past, the fair has included a rodeo and a carnival among other attractions. According to Myers, dozens of vendors return each year to participate in the festivities.
Myers spoke to the value of the event for Delta Junction, saying, “It helps businesses in town, and of course they’re our sponsors too, for the fair.”
In addition to bringing in visitors from around the state, Deltana is a place for residents of Delta Junction to see old friends and be social. “Everybody in the town looks forward to the fair every year. It was just a hard decision to have to cancel the fair for the year,” Myers said.
Instead of putting on the fair and music festival, Myers hopes to schedule a one-day event in August, and for Deltana to be back even stronger in 2021.
