James and the Giant Peach written by author Roald Dahl in 1961 is now a mainstage production.

The Fairbanks community has an opportunity to see the story of James and his insect friends live on stage in a production by The Fairbanks Academy of Children's Theater.

James is an orphan who goes to live with his “horrid” aunts and he meets some characters along the way that lead the boy on a magical adventure.

Karley Thrun portrays the part of Ladahlord, who is the narrator of the play.

“He meets me in which I give him magical things that help him turn his life around," said Thrun.

This musical adaptation brings to life the songwriting team Pasek and Paul who also wrote the greatest showman and Dear Evan Hansen and LA-LA Land.

Kylie Hass plays the role of Ms. Spider. She spoke about how her role and the character James interact in the show.

"His life gets changed for the better and he meets some friends who are the insects and they have a series of adventures together," said Hass.

Hass said having the story on stage brings out the best parts of the story by bringing in choreography and musical numbers to the production.

“It's very cool because it's live so we have actors who are playing these parts and we have very awesome costumes, great make-up and props…," said Haas.

Haas described her favorite aspect of the play.

“Oh, that’s hard. I love them all, I love everything about this show. I really like the singing and dancing has always been a big favorite of mine,” she said. “And it’s very cool because it’s live so we have actors who are playing these parts, and we have very awesome costumes and great make-up and some props like right here,” said Haas.

The characters and friendships bring laughs that resonate with those of all ages.

Doors open Friday, April 5th and the show runs through April 14th.
