Alaska Unemployment Ranks Highest In Nation
Alaska is facing the highest unemployment rate in the US, with June's employment rate down by an estimated 5,500 jobs compared to this time last year.
According to a press release issued by the State of Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development, the state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is at 6.8 percent, compared to the national average of 4.4 percent.
Health care, federal & local government, and leisure and hospitality were the only industries to gain jobs over the year.
State government led employment losses, followed by construction, then oil and gas jobs.
