Alaska State Troopers and the Fairbanks Police Department engaged in a high speed chase Saturday night. According to AST dispatch, a wildlife trooper and Alaska State Park Ranger attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle for multiple violations, and for almost hitting two moose on Chena Hot Springs Road.

The vehicle did not pull over, but instead sped down Chena Hot Springs Road toward Fairbanks. Troopers unsuccessfully deployed a spike strip on CHSR and the vehicle continued on the Steese Highway.

Fairbanks Police again deployed spike strips which were successful in deflating the tires. The vehicle eventually stopped on Harold Bentley Ave. off of the Johansen Expressway.

The driver, William Riche, 46, of Benton, Arkansas was charged with felony eluding and reckless driving. He was also found to be under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

Riche was taken to Fairbanks Correctional Center and held without bail.
