April is Autism Awareness Month and members of the community came to UAF on Thursday to make a human ribbon celebrating autism. The event was organized by the Autism Society of Alaska and over thirty people worked to make the ribbon. Participants were given free t-shirts for joining in the fun.

Denys Collins, secretary for the Autism Society talked about how events like these help people with autism.

"The public knows a lot about autism they have family members they have class mates," Collins said. "Now it's just about teaching them to accept autism and celebrate it really. So the ribbon for example, it’s a time where we come together and we just celebrate autism. People with autism, they're your family members, they're your classmates, they are your coworkers, and they are valuable people in our community."
