Update:

An arrest has been made in the murder case of Kristen Huntington. Huntington was reported missing on January 10th and found deceased in a vacant Fairbanks apartment on January 12th, 2020.

According to a press release from Fairbanks Police, at approximately 6 p.m. on Thursday January 15th police arrested Eric Palmer Rustad, 39, for the murder of Huntington.

Rustad was taken into custody on a no-bail warrant and charged with murder in the first degree, tampering with physical evidence, and misconduct with a corpse.

A representative for FPD has confirmed that there was a connection between the suspect and the victim prior to her death.

More information is slated to be released on Friday and we will update this story once that is available.

Human remains that were located inside a vacant apartment in the Hamilton Acres neighborhood on January 12 have been identified. The Fairbanks Police Department is investigating the case as a homicide.

On Tuesday Fairbanks Police released a statement identifying the remains found as those of Kristen Huntington, who had previously been reported missing on January 10th, 2020. Next of kin have been notified.

The case is being investigated as a homicide and police are asking that anyone with information regarding the incident please contact the FPD Detective Division at 907-450-6500 or at FPDInvestigations@fairbanks.us.

A press release issued by the Fairbanks Police Department announced that human remains were located inside a vacant apartment in the Hamilton Acres neighborhood on January 12.

The remains were located during a follow up on a missing person’s report which had been filed two days earlier. FPD obtained consent to search a vacant apartment in a building in which the missing person was believed to have been.

FPD were unable to determine the identity of the remains, and the body is being sent to the State of Alaska Medical Examiner’s Office in Anchorage for positive identification.
