Starting Friday, the Fairbanks Drama Association will open its doors to perform 'Shakespeare in Love', the tale of a young poet and playwright, and his muse.

The story follows a young Will Shakespeare as he struggles with writer's block, and an approaching deadline in sight. It's not until he finds his inspiration in a young maiden, Viola, who admires Shakespeare's work. She poses as a man in order to star in one of his plays, going against the social norms or their time. As romance and betrayal unravel, the drama continues, inspiring Shakespeare to write one of the most beloved romances of all time.

The director, Andrew Cassel, said, "The play explores themes of creativity, of love, how far you would go to achieve your goals in life, the sacrifices you would be willing to make, and ultimately the duty that you have to your family versus yourself."

Executive director of FDA, Peggy Ferguson, said, "You know I always say, here we are in the middle of nowhere, although we love it. And we have all this talent in our town. And this talent needs a platform to develop and grow, and entertain the community. And that's what we are. We are a real imagination center, for children and adults who want to express themselves and have an opportunity to be creative in a group setting. And share their love their love of theater and storytelling with the community."

This will be the first of five plays this season. For more information about 'Shakespeare in Love' and other productions, or to purchase season tickets, call 456-7529.
