Fairbanks MACS Transit bus system to resume normal schedule July 6
Fairbanks North Star Borough’s MACS Transit bus system will resume its normal schedule on July 6, 2020.
“Resuming public transportation is a critical component of bringing our community back to a sense of normalcy. All eight of MACS routes will resume regular scheduled service,” said Michelle Denton, FNSB Transportation Director.
The restart plans for MACS Transit bus service include having a limited capacity of eight passengers on the bus at a time in order to comply with physical distancing, all patrons must board from the rear and must board wearing a mask or nose and mouth covering. Increased cleaning of the buses will take place throughout the day along the designated route. Due to the various road construction projects taking place in the borough, the bus routes occasionally may be detoured or delayed arriving or departing. In addition, the bus drivers will also wear a mask and gloves.
MACS Van Tran service will make similar adjustments including the return to service being provided for qualified riders. Van Tran will no longer provide service to the general public. Van Tran is for those riders who meet the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
These changes to the MACS Transit and Van Tran service are being implemented to fight community spread of COVID-19.
There will be no MACS Transit or Van Tran service available on July 3rd or 4th, in observance of the Independence Day holiday.
The Max C. Lyon Jr. Transit Center will continue to remain closed to the public at this time.
