In May an anonymous donation was given to the Fairbanks School District to purchase musical instruments. Those instruments have finally arrived.

Music teachers gathered at the Fairbanks School District 'Shipping and Receiving' building Monday morning for a work session to unpack and organize new instruments that were purchased with the $110,000 anonymous donation. About a dozen teachers worked on opening the packages, containing everything from saxophones to violins. The school ordered around 200 instruments and about 150 of those were delivered. They will be distributed to 18 schools in the district.

"There was huge applause at the school board meeting when it was first announced. We knew it was going to be important and very important to the public and to our students and to the teachers to make sure it was handled responsibly," said purchasing agent Emily Proper.

The district has $35,000 remaining that will be used after the schools have had time to assess what is still needed.
