A Fairbanks man was arraigned in district court today in connection with a robbery and assault that ended in the downtown standoff Monday.

22–year old Dametrey Rice is charged with assault, kidnapping, theft, burglary, robbery, criminal mischief, and misconduct involving weapons.

Early Monday, city police received a report of a burglary and assault at Sourdough Express. Police arrived on scene to see the victim bleeding from his mouth and his eyes swollen shut. The victim told officers that he saw what he thought was an intoxicated man on the property. He began trying to assist the stranger off the property when two more men approached him, and all three reportedly assaulted him. He was then bound with duct tape and a bungee cord. The victim told police the men stole a vehicle and guns.

The vehicle was located, at which point police found Rice and arrested him.

The victim was taken to FMH for treatment.
