Fairbanks man arrested after threatening to kill family and have standoff with police
Fairbanks Police arrested a man Thursday after he threatened to kill his ex-wife and family, and have a standoff with the police.
Fairbanks Emergency Communication Center received several 911 calls that a man was attempting to break into an inhabited apartment with a shovel.
When officers arrived on the scene, Christopher Barnes was holding an ice chipper and refused to comply with officer's commands.
After being warned several times that he would be shot with a less-lethal shotgun, he threw down the chipper and rushed at the officers.
Due to the possible report that he may have been armed, he was shot with three beanbag rounds before complying and being taken into custody.
Barnes has been charged with terroristic threatening in the second degree, criminal trespass in the first degree, assault in the fourth degree, and criminal mischief in the fourth degree.
