A Fairbanks man has been charged with multiple counts of assault stemming from an alleged domestic violence incident.

According to charging documents, Leonard Sheldon, 36, called the troopers to report that his girlfriend was trying to stab herself with a knife and having a nervous breakdown. He requested that Troopers and EMS respond quickly.

After they took the girlfriend to the hospital, she told the ER doctor that she had been in a domestic violence situation.

An investigation revealed that Sheldon had allegedly been strangling the female while he called 911.

After troopers re-listened to the call, they could hear the women saying he was lying and that saying she could not breathe.

Troopers charged Sheldon with assault in the second degree, assault third degree and assault in the fourth degree.
