The Fairbanks North Star Borough School District has been accepted into the 'League of Innovative Schools', a national coalition of forward-thinking school districts organized by the nonprofit 'Digital Promise'. Our local district was one of 12 nationwide that were accepted this year. This network accepts new members through an open application process once per year. It now includes 102 school districts in 33 states. Superintendent Karen Gaborik hopes that this group will not only help current students and teachers, but also that it will attract new employees.

"In teacher shortages, we are working hard to attract and retain the highest quality educators in the country, and being a member of this coalition will be huge. It's really an honor to be included, so I hope that people will consider that as they look at all the things that Fairbanks teachers are doing and that our district is doing and make the choice to want to come and live here and be an educator in this town," she said.

The Fairbanks North Star Borough School District joins two other Alaska districts in the League of Innovative Schools, the Copper River School District in Glennallen and the Sitka School District.
