A conglomerate of organizations is teaming up next week to bring free COVID-19 testing to Fairbanks at the Carlson Center parking lot. After free testing seemed to be dipping in April, Elizabeth Burton, the regional nurse manager at the Fairbanks Regional Public Health, began to put together a plan to bring this service to the Interior.

"One thing led to another and I started talking to a lead pharmacist for Fred Meyer [who's] based in Anchorage," said Burton. "He oversees the region, called the District 7 region for Fred Meyer Pharmacy. He and I have been talking for about eight weeks and we put together a collaboration where we are doing this together."

Testing will be twice a week from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This will only be available through appointments, which can be booked at 907-452-1776.

Burton was able to strike up a partnership with Fred Meyer, Alaska Department of Health and Social Services, Volunteers on Policing, Public Health Nursing and the Fairbanks North Star Borough to help get the testing going.

"The first time the state of Alaska has done a public/private partnership regarding COVID testing in the state so far." said Burton.

The appointment number is 907-452-1776.

The FMH Hotline is 907-458-2888.
