Guilty plea for woman accused of murdering boyfriend
Mary Gansman pleaded guilty to second degree murder in court this morning. Gansman was originally charged with one count of first degree murder and two counts of second degree murder.
Charging documents say that she shot her boyfriend, Steven Halonen multiple times and then called Gansman’s daughter and told her she had shot him after he allegedly attempted to strangle her.
Troopers responded and located Gansman at the residence, Halonen was found with multiple gunshot wounds.
During an interview Gansman said she had called 911, which she had not. She also made no claims that he had assaulted her and denied calling his daughter. She also suggested that maybe Halonen had shot himself multiple times or that maybe he had shot himself once and then she had shot him several more times.
Gansman pleaded guilty to second degree murder and the other two charges were dropped. As part of the deal she will be sentenced to serve 20 years. The deal also requires a minimum of 20 additional years be suspended, but the judge can add more at sentencing. Sentencing is scheduled for later this year.
