Bryan Nicolai, 19, from Kwethluk has been charged with attempted murder after pulling the village fire alert system and then shooting at village police officers. According to Alaska State Trooper Dispatch, Nicolai allegedly broke into the Public Safety building and activated the fire alert system.

Members of the community began to respond to assist with the possible fire. While community members were responding to the Public Safety building, Nicolia forced open the locked VPSO office, put on a ballistic vest and helmet, and stashed multiple firearms in the building.

When he was approached by a village police officer he pointed the gun at the officer and pulled the trigger. The gun didn't fire and the officer was able to go to safety. Nicolai then grabbed another rifle and fired multiple shots towards the officer.

A community member came to the building but fled when he saw what was going on. He returned to the area with a rifle and was able to talk Nicolai into lowering his weapon and getting on the ground where VPSOs placed him under arrest.

Troopers responded to the village and transported Nicolia to the Bethel Jail. He is charged with attempted murder in the first degree, first degree burglary, second degree criminal trespass, criminal mischief in the third degree and fourth degree misconduct involving a weapon.
