The end of the Winter Sports season means the end of sports for the year at UAF.

For this week's Nanook Corner, we're going to look at the top five moments of the year for UAF Athletics.

Devin Fry; Reporting>>: The #5 Spot on this list belongs to Cassi Williams, the Senior for the UAF Women's Basketball team who set a team record for most three-pointers made in a single game. The Lady Nooks had a tough season but their brightest spots came in a two game series against the Multnomah Lions. They swept the Lions with a 90-42 win in the opener and a 70-31 win in the finale. In that opening contest, Senior Guard Cassi Williams made nine shots from behind the arc to set a program record and finish the day with 29 points. These would be the last games the Lady Nooks won this season, finishing the year at 4-22 overall. The Number Four Spot goes to the UAF Hockey Team, more specifically Freshman Forward Steven Jandric. Jandric was very successful in his first year in the program, and he showed his promise very early on against Air Force. These two teams skated to a 1-1 tie. They then moved on to a 3-on-3 double-overtime period where Jandric nailed what would have been the game winner in a WCHA Contest. Jandric would end up finishing the year with 19 assists and 4 goals, and was one of the top-producing freshmen in the WCHA. In the Number three spot we have arguably the most exciting basketball game the Patty Center saw this year. The Nanook men were locked into a war against the Holy Names Hawks. They were down 64-61 before Alex Baham nailed a trey at the buzzer to force overtime. At the end of that first overtime period, the Nooks were down again, this time by a score of 73-70. Then with only 1 point 9 seconds left on the clock, Davis Kimble was able to force double-overtime with another clutch three. Holy Names eventually took this one 82-21, but the Nanooks were able to show their playmaking and sharpshooting abilities that would captivate us for the rest of the season. Coming in at number two is the UAF Volleyball team, who secured their best record in nearly a decade with this five set win over Montana State Billings. The Nooks lost the first set, but rebounded to win the next two. MSUB forced a fifth set but the Lady Nooks were able to secure the win with a 15-11 victory in that fifth set. The season-ending win allowed the Nooks to finish the year at 12-17 overall, which tied their highest win total since 2009 and marked the highest win-total since head coach Brian Scott took over the program in 2015. And the UAF Hockey team makes another appearance, this time in the #1 Spot thanks to their shocking upset over the top team in the WCHA, the Minnesota State Mavericks in January. The Nooks not only defeated the Mavs, they dismantled them, finishing with a 5-0 victory. Zach Frye led the scoring spree, finishing the night with two goals while Tristan Thompson, Tayler Munson, and Ryker Leer also lit the lamp. Goaltender Anton Martinsson earned his first college shutout while earning 26 saves in front of his parents, who travelled from Sweden to watch him play.
