North Pole State Rep. Tammie Wilson Reels In Week's Second Largest Halibut At Valdez Fishing Derby
The Valdez Fishing Derbies have announced their weekly winners for the Halibut Derby for the week of August 20th through the 26th.
Stephen Davenport, who travelled up from the Nation's Capital in order to compete in the Derby, caught the top fish for that week with a 165 pound Halibut that he reeled in on the 22nd.
State Representative Tammie Wilson from North Pole took second place for the week with a 140-pounder that she reeled in on August 25th.
In the overall Halibut Derby, Frieda Wiley is still at the top of the leaderboard with a 374 pound monster that she brought up on August 6th.
Fairbanks' Tim Stadtmiller is still in second place with a 266 pounder that he caught on June 19th, and Omaha Nebraska's Brett Fickler is holding down the Bronze Medal spot with the 197 pounder that he reeled in on August 18th.
Fayetteville Georgia's Cole Baxter is still the leader in the Silver Salmon Derby with a 15.62 pound Salmon.
Two Alaskans are Holding down 2nd and 3rd place as Homer Huffman from Valdez is in second place with a 15.10 pound Silver and Wasilla's Randy Arndt is in 3rd place with a 14.98 pounder.
Time is definitely running out to get in on the action in Valdez as the Derbies will come to an end this Sunday September 3rd.
Both derbies feature a $15,000 grand prize for first place, $5,000 for second place, and $2,000 for third.
