Colonel Michael Rauenhorst has been named Air Force Association Teacher of the Year for both the Fairbanks and the State of Alaska chapters of the association.

Rauenhorst taught for the Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) program at North Pole High School, and coached the JROTC drill team which, over the years, has competed at a national level.

In addition, Rauenhorst taught private Pilot Ground School classes

According to a press release from the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District, the award includes a jacket, certificates and $750 dollars toward future teaching endeavors.

District Superintendent Karen Gaborik said of Rauenhorst, “He is just an amazing JROTC instructor and has won, with his program, so many awards in other areas, just with the work that he’s done with kids. It feels like he’s getting the recognition he deserves at the state level.”

This year, Rauenhorst retired to the state of Michigan.
