PET OF THE WEEK: Meet Roo, a 10-year old Alaskan Husky
This husky is sure to make you howl with excitement!
Today we meet an old girl who's young at heart and ready to find a home to keep up with her! Meet Roo in Pet of the Week.
Here's what Kimberly Imbert, Animal Shelter Operations Supervisor with Fairbanks North Star Borough Animal Shelter, had to say:
"Hi, I'm Kimberly, this week's Pet of the Week is Roo. Roo is a 10-year old Alaskan Husky who was brought to the shelter with some of her other husky friends. Their owner had gotten a little bit older and wasn't able to be as active with them as before. Roo was briefly adopted but was actually too exuberant for her new home, because she really liked to pull on the leash. She is mushing trained, so she would be a great companion for someone who enjoys skijoring, and maybe help train a younger skijoring dog.
Roo is super sweet and she does have a great amount of energy for 10 years old, being an Alaskan husky. At 10 years old, she's probably prime pet for most working people because she has a lot of energy but not too much. Roo has lived outside for most of her life, except for the past few weeks being in the shelter where she is keeping her kennel perfectly clean. She does need to be housebroken because that's probably more of a coincidence so it's actual purposeful thinking not to go to the bathroom inside. But that's how you train puppies. So, she just needs to be trained like a puppy, even though she's an older gal.
She's really sweet, and she'd be really great for an active person who really loves the outdoors. Roo loves other dogs, and she's really playful with people and other dogs. She doesn't really have a lot of experience with children. And she's never been around anything like a cat. So caution should be taken if she's entering a home with those things. Roo has other friends, and that includes other sled dogs and other cute dogs at the shelter looking for loving homes."
